The Seventy Weeks.
Daniel 9:24-27, Seventy weeks [of years] are determined for your people and for your holy city: 1. To finish the transgression, 2. To make an end of sins, [brought about by Jesus Christ] 3. To make reconciliation for iniquity, [brought about by Jesus Christ] 4. To bring in everlasting righteousness, [by Jesus Christ] 5. To seal up [fulfill or put an end to] vision and prophecy and 6. To anoint the Most Holy [One]. [who but Jesus Christ]
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until the Messiah the Prince [Jesus Christ], there shall be [firstly] seven weeks [seven weeks of years times seven equals 49 years] and [secondly] sixty-two weeks [sixty-two weeks of years times seven equals 434 years for a total of 483 years].
The street (square) shall be built again and the wall (moat), even in troublesome times [read Ezra and Nehemiah].
And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off [suffer the death penalty] but not for Himself ...Then He shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week [three and one-half years] He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering [by His death on the cross].
...And the people [Roman army] of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood. And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate [that is, to the city of Jerusalem], even until the consummation [end], which is determined, is poured out on the desolator [Rome].
