Peter

Who was Peter?

He was a fisherman:

And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Matthew 4:18.

He had at least one brother:

And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Matthew 4:18.

He was married:

Now when Jesus had come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother lying sick with a fever. Matthew 8:14.

Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?   1 Corinthians 9:5.

Jesus named him Cephas (he also was called Simon and Peter):

One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ).
And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said,
"You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone). John 1:40-42.

Peter’s father’s name was Jonah:

One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ).
And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said,
"You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone). John 1:40-42.

Peter was part of the inner circle of the disciples:

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; Matthew 17:1.

Peter asked Jesus to ask him to come to Him on the water:

And Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water."  So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. Matthew 14:28-29.

Peter acknowledged that Jesus was the Son of God:

Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Matthew 16:16.

Peter used his sword on the high priest’s servant:

Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. John 18:10.

Peter denied Jesus three times:

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." So he went out and wept bitterly. Matthew 26:75.

Peter didn’t permit anyone to bow down to (worship) him:

When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, "Stand up; I too am a man." Acts 10:25.

Peter was an elder (see qualifications at: 1 timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9):

The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 1 Peter 5:1.
