Revelation 16:16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.
Now let us look at the context of this verse.
Revelation 16:12-16 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame." And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.
Revelation is a book filled with symbols. To take this great battle as some do today is to do injustice to the Scripture. But let us look at some other Scriptures from John that will help us understand this.
Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants--things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John.
John introduces the book by showing Christians that the persecution that they are enduring will soon be over. The things revealed are to take place in the immediate future, not 2,000 or more years in the future.
Revelation 22:6 Then he said to me, These words are faithful and true. And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place.
This prophecy will be fulfilled in the immediate future or God’s angel was not telling the truth. Are you willing to attribute deceitfulness to one of God’s angels?
Nor can one look to the Old Testament prophets to find some prophecy for the current time.
Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it.
Luke 24:44 Then He said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.
So with Jesus’ resurrection and Pentecost after His resurrection the prophecies in the Old Testament had been fulfilled.
So it is easy to conclude that there are no prophecies for the current time period nor for the future except the coming of Jesus to take His disciples home.
1Corinthians 15:20-28 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the first fruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming. Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. For "He has put all things under His feet." But when He says "all things are put under Him," it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
