Israel’s and Judah’s Spiritual Adultery.

Isaiah 54:5, For your Maker is your husband, The LORD of hosts is His name; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth.

Ezekiel 16:32, You are an adulterous wife, who takes strangers instead of her husband.

Jeremiah 3:6-9,  The LORD said also to me in the days of Josiah the king: Have you seen what backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there played the harlot.  And I said, after she had done all these things, 'Return to Me.' But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it. Then I saw that for all the causes for which backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a certificate of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also.  So it came to pass, through her casual harlotry, that she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.

Jeremiah 3:14, Return, O backsliding children,” says the LORD; “for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

Jeremiah 3:20, Surely, as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, So have you dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel,” says the LORD.

From these Scriptures we learn what spiritual adultery is: leaving God the husband and being married to another, the idols.

As long as God’s wife (Israel) is married to the idols is the spiritual adultery continuing?

Or is the spiritual adultery just a one time sin--on the day that the idol is first served?

What must Israel do to cease from the spiritual adultery?

Physical Adultery Today.

Matthew 19:9,  And I say to you(Jesus is introducing the principle for Christians by this statement), whoever divorces his/her wife/husband, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her/him who is divorced commits adultery”

A husband or wife divorces their mate without the exception that Jesus gave above. How long does the sin of adultery continue?  Is the adultery a one time sin--just on the day that the first intimacy is achieved? What must the mate do to cease from the sin of adultery?

One must apply the same principles of spiritual adultery to physical adultery.
